Effect of Age

چکیده
T HE INCREASE of pulse wave velocity with age is well established1-3 and reflects a loss of the elastic properties of the arterial wall.4 The age trends of pulse wave velocity vary for different arteries.2 8 In view of early localization of atherosclerotic changes in the abdominal aorta, we have compared age trends of the aortic pulse wave velocity, measured by impedance plethysmography in normal subjects and in patients with coronary artery disease. Since arterial hypertension as well as age increases the pulse wave velocity,1-6 only normotensive patients were selected for this series. Impedance plethysmography is a convenient method for inertia-free recording of the aortic volume pulse from skin electrodes and eliminates the necessity of intrapolation of records from the subelavian or carotid arteries as in earlier investigations. We have also measured the interval from the earliest QRS deflection in any of simultaneous 3 standard electrocardiographic leads to the foot point of the aortie volume pulse recorded by impedance plethysmogram. This interval consists of the electrical latent period, the period of isometric contraction, and the time from the opening of the aortic valve to the arrival of the pulse wave in the vicinity of the aortic arch. The isometric contraction time is probably the most important of these components. The term "aortic ejection time"7 is used for abbreviation. The effects of age and of coronary artery disease on this interval was studied for the first time.

SUMMARY In this paper the effect of previous history of PKU in sibs and close relatives on the average age of the disease detection is studied . To find out the effect of the previous case of PKU on the detection age of her I his younger sibs, the population of 93 PKU patients were divided into 2 distinct group-I includes 63 patiens, that are the only or the first PKU children of their pare...
متن کاملEffect of age on reproductive performance of Kutum, Rutilus frisii (Nordmann, 1840) in Shirood River, southern coast of the Caspian Sea
In this study, we investigated the age-dependent changes in reproductive efficiency of Kutum, Rutilus frisii caught from Shirood River, the Southern Caspian Sea (Mazandaran Province, Iran). Age-dependent reproductive performance of brooders was assayed on two age and sex groups. Results revealed thatthere were no significant differences in sperm characteristics between age groups. All female...
متن کاملThe Comparison of Gait Kinematics in Over-Weight and Normal-Weight People across Age Groups
Objective Obesity and overweight have changed to very important factors in people movements in the modern world. Therefore, the present study was carried out to examine the effects of overweight on gait kinematic factors in children, young adults, middle-aged, and older adults. Methods The present study was a causal-comparative study in which 40 participants aged 9-85 were selected based on pu...
متن کاملEffect of age on reproductive efficiency of adult rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum, 1972
Rainbow trout, oncorhynchus mykiss is one of the most important cold water fishes in Iran. For successful artificial propagation of rainbow trout, the quality and quantity of brooders and sexual materials are key factors. In the present study, we investigated the age-dependent changes of reproductive efficiency. For this purpose, the brooders were divided into age classes and then three age gro...
متن کاملActivation-Induced Apoptosis in T cells: Effect of Age and Caloric Restriction
We have previously shown that the proliferative response of T cells to antigenic or mitogenic stimulus decreased with age and that caloric resection (CR) attenuated the age-related decline in proliferation and IL-2 expression. Because activation-induced apoptosis is known to regulate cell proliferation and eliminate the high number of activated cells during an immune response, it was of interes...
متن کاملEffect of priming and seed age on germination, photosynthetic pigments, and biochemical content of Quinoa seedling
To investigate the effect of quinine seed priming on morpho-physiological and biochemical traits of seedlings, a factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications at the seed processing laboratory of the Shahed University of Tehran. Experimental factors included two levels of seed age (one-year old and four-year old) and four priming treatments (control...
